About the School
Bering Strait School District (BSSD) is a public school district based in Unalakleet, Alaska, dedicated to serving remote communities in northwest Alaska. Covering approximately 80,000 square miles, BSSD operates 15 village schools, providing K-12 education to around 1,800 students, nearly all of whom are Alaskan Native. The district emphasizes culturally responsive education and integrates local expertise to support student success in isolated environments. BSSD offers a range of educational programs, including special education, career and technical education through the Northwestern Alaska Career and Technical Center, and after-school enrichment activities.
