About the School
The Bryan Allen Stevenson School of Excellence (BASSE) was a tuition-free public charter secondary school located in Sussex County, Delaware. Founded in 2018 and opening its doors in fall 2024, BASSE focused on service-learning, personalized education, and leadership opportunities for students in grades 6-9. The school aimed to create pathways for students and families through community engagement and meaningful experiences. BASSE was named after civil rights attorney Bryan Stevenson and was committed to serving the local community. It emphasized a BIPOC-led approach in its leadership and board, promoting education in various sectors, including youth development and arts & culture. The school sought to provide transformative educational experiences while fostering a strong sense of community.
