About the School
Gotham Professional Arts Academy is a public high school located in Brooklyn, New York, founded in 2007 by Alex White. The school emphasizes arts education, project-based learning, and social justice, moving away from traditional standardized testing. It follows the New York Performance Standards Consortium model, where students engage in Performance-Based Assessment Tasks (PBATs) across various subjects, including English, Math, Social Studies, Science, and Art. The academy's arts program is a key aspect of its curriculum, offering concentrations in visual art, art criticism, and theater/acting. It is one of the few consortium schools that require students to demonstrate mastery in the arts for graduation. Gotham also aims to achieve Career and Technical Education (CTE) certification to enhance arts career readiness. The school provides education for grades 9??2, along with admissions support and community partnerships, including collaborations with the Whitney Museum of American Art
